Tue 9 Oct - Parkes NSW

After spending Monday getting organised with food, clothes and gear for the campervan we
were too excited to sleep and woke at 4.30am to start our "road trip".
By 6am we were on the road out of Sydney (no surprise the traffic was light!) and headed to
Parkes via the Blue Mountains.
Stopped for a break at Blackheath - our favourite Victory Antique Cafe (below, with Di pointing to our campervan) and then headed over the mountains to Parkes.
Arrived at lunchtime and went to the local Visitors Centre where they recommended Spicers Caravan Park for our stay. Very good facilities and location (backing on to the local oval).
We set up table and chairs, made a late picnic lunch and then wandered around town - along the main street and up to Memorial Hill.
We passed what looked like an old reception centre, named Gracelands, and suspected that it had some connection with Elvis and the festival.
It had. The Gracelands Reception Centre was built by a couple of Elvis fans back in 1981 and they had regular gatherings there. In 1992, they decided to set up an Elvis Festival the following year in 1993. 200 people attended, and the rest is history as they say. This year was the 20th anniversary.

As the sun goes down, we make a nice Spaghetti Bolognese "a la camp stove" for dinner with red wine - very nice - but by 8ish we were ready for bed. A long day and slept well
A few pictures from the Spicer Camping ground...
Our "home" for the next 6-7 weeks or so...
